An opportunity to build on outstanding foundations!
An exciting opportunity to join our team has arisen after our current Chief Nurse announced their intention to resign. During her 7 years of transformational leadership St Gemma’s Hospice has been rated Outstanding by CQC (2021), established a strong culture of continuous improvement and putting patients at the heart of what we do.
We are looking for someone with the drive, energy, innovative thinking and skill to build on those foundations, working as a key member of the Hospice Executive Team as we navigate a future of increased demand for our services, significant changes to our site and implementation of the 10 Year Health plan, whilst keeping the delivery of safe, effective and responsive care as our core focus. We are also a leader in research, education and translating evidence into practice and work in partnership with the University of Leeds as the first UK University Teaching Hospice.
The Chief Nurse provides strategic and operational leadership for nursing, allied health professionals, clinical support services and education, with shared accountability for quality and safety and a strong partnership with the Chief Medical Officer.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Chief Nurse will be a team player who is outcome- focused, will take a ‘one hospice’ view to future challenges and opportunities, and bring constructive challenge delivered in line with our values.
St Gemma’s is an exciting, supportive and caring place to be. If you believe you have the experience and qualities to be our Chief Nurse, we look forward to hearing from you.
